Mobile app market grows with Nokia success
Wednesday, 3rd February, 2010
The mobile application marketplace is widening, with Nokia reporting record results for its Ovi Store at the end of January. Nokia's fourth-quarter net sales details show that Ovi Store is serving more than one million application downloads per day, contributing to net sales of €12 billion (£10.4 billion), a growth of 22 per cent compared with the previous quarter. Tim Green, executive editor of Mobile Entertainment magazine, said that Apple created the paradigm for mobile application stores, offering a quick, easy-to-pay experience that works well for customers and developers alike. Mr Green went on to say that by limiting what application developers can do, by disallowing Adobe Flash applications for instance, Apple can ensure that everything works on its platform. "It also helps Apple because they have just one device, whereas Nokia has to modify applications for the myriad of different screen sizes and user interfaces that its devices have," he added.
