Top Tips for Studio Guests
Here are some tips for our studio guests to help them prepare for their interview. 1. Successful media broadcasting is all about confidence and presentation. When being interviewed on radio your tone of voice presents your personality to the listeners so the aim is to sound friendly and informative. 2. Before the interview think of your main objective for doing the broadcast and list three to five key points that you want the audience to remember, then practise communicating them succinctly. Note any talking points that relate to these topics as they may be of interest to the audience. 3. WMR.com provides plenty of opportunities for you to promote your product or services in the programme, so try to ensure these references fit seamlessly into the natural conversation during the interview. 4. Project energy and enthusiasm into your voice. If you haven't done a radio interview before perhaps you could try recording a conversation with a colleague or friend prior to the interview so you have a clear impression of how your voice will sound on air. 5. Be careful not to use confusing jargon or acronyms as this can exclude a large part of your audience. If you do feel it is necessary to use jargon at some point explain its exact meaning before hand. It won't sound patronising, for many it will simply be a necessary explanation. 6. Don't overplay the sales role. The audience will have tuned in to be informed and entertained, so aim to be interesting without appearing too commercial. 7. Always clearly answer the question and afterwards there will usually be room for interesting anecdotes or examples which prove your point. This is the time to make the strong, positive impression for you and/or your company which will boost interest in your product. 8. It's well worth announcing your forthcoming interview to your clients/customers before your appearance and inviting them to email you any questions or comments they would like aired. This boosts the sense of your company's 'community' and accentuates your approachability.
